The leading national brand fiber supplement, as well as virtually all fiber supplements other than Fiberrific use psyllium as their primary ingredient.

Psyllium (Plantago psyllium) is a grain crop grown in India and Iran for its seeds and husks. It is these parts which are used by most fiber supplement manufacturers as the base for their products.

Psyllium is the ingredient of choice for these manufacturers because it is an edible source of fiber, is plentiful and relatively inexpensive.

Psyllium husks and seeds however are not a good source of fiber. At best they contain 5% fiber.1 In other words, in order to obtain 1 gram of fiber you would have to take at least 20 grams of psyllium.

Fiberrific is comprised of a 100% natural, completely soluble, grit-free edible fiber extracted from chicory roots called Partially Hydrolyzed Inulin. Fiberrific is over 97% fiber. In other words, in order to obtain 1 gram of fiber you would have to take only 1.03 grams of Fiberrific.

In essence Fiberrific™ is at least 20 times as potent a fiber supplement as the "psyllium based" fiber supplements. You would have to take over 500 grams of the leading national fiber brand just to get 5 grams of fiber! With Fiberrific, just 5.15 grams. You would have to take over 15 "well rounded teaspoons" or 180 capsules 0r 53 wafers of the leading national brand just to equal the 4.5 grams of fiber in 1 easy to take teaspoon of Fiberrific.
